Grab the jacket before heading out this morning and don't forget the umbrella.
TODAY: Numerous showers expected to push across the area from the west through the rest of the day. There might be a few rumbles of thunder with this activity, but not expecting anything severe. With the cloudy sky and rain, temperatures will barley be moving with the highs in the upper 40s and low 50s. Rain totals from a few tenths of an inch to over half an inch possible in some locations.
TONIGHT: On and off shower chances will stick around with lows dropping down to the lower 40s.
SATURDAY: High near 67, cloudy with on and off showers earlier in the day. Models showing the chance for rain diminishing during the afternoon, then possible showers and storms that evening.
Also, Saturday marks the 49th anniversary of the Lubbock EF-5 tornado that devastated the Tech and downtown area. Tons of damage including at the Jones Stadium and 26 fatalities. Images below are from a news paper I took photos of published 5-13-1970 showing the destruction.
EXTENDED: Highs returning to the 70s and 80s through next week. Mother's Day showers and storms returning after a small break from the overnight and early morning hours. A low pressure system will continue to provide storms chances through Tuesday as it pushes across the region. We might receive some good rain area wide over the next several days before it drys out mid week. Models hinting more rain possible by next weekend.
Have a great Friday and stay warm. Matt with the next updated to the forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
