Much cooler next few days, more rain starting Friday

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Severe storms rocked the northern half of the area overnight bringing some dime to golf ball sized hail. Some good rainfall totals from these storms with most locations any where from a tenth of an inch to over half.

A cold front also moved through the area overnight. Temperatures are much cooler this morning with a breeze from the north.

TODAY: Staying chilly with the high only near 59, the wind will stay 10-20mph from the north/northeast. Mostly cloudy through lunch time, then clouds breaking through the afternoon.

MORE RAIN ON THE WAY: A low pressure system will change the jet streak across the Region. This will allow a disturbance to move across the South Plains giving us rain chances starting early in the morning. The better chances will likely continue into the early afternoon hours of Saturday. Were not expecting severe storms although some embedded thunderstorms will be possible. Additional rainfall up to an inch possible with this chance, some locations with strong cells likely to have more.

NEXT WEEK: Storm are expected to increase again as the low pressure system pushes closer to the area. We will have to keep a close eye on what the environment proves because storms could be severe.

COOL TEMPERATURES: Highs will stay chilly through Saturday, coldest day on Friday with highs in the low 50s expected.  Although highs will warm to the low 70s by Sunday and into next week, they will still be below average.

Have a great Thursday! Matt with the latest updated forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
