LUBBOCK, Texas -

Texas Tech Athletics and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund granted $150,000 to Lubbock's Hope Lodge.

The grant is the result of fundraising efforts initiated by Kay Yow Cancer Fund Board Member and former Executive Director, Marsha Sharp. The men's and women's basketball programs joined forces to raise $100,000 for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund through their respective Play4Kay games in anticipation of a $150,000 grant going back to Lubbock's Hope Lodge.

Sharp said it was important that it could match the earnings from the games and keep the money in Lubbock.

"Part of the mission statement for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund is to serve the undeserved and for us to be able to serve the undeserved in Lubbock as far as people who live away from Lubbock that need cancer treatments, Hope Lodge is a perfect fit for that," she said.

The lodge serves as a home away from home for cancer patients.
