Former Lubbock City Council Member and Lubbock ISD School Board Trustee dies

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The City of Lubbock released the following statement regarding the passing of Lubbock City Council and Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees member, Deaton Rigsby.

“Denise and I send prayers and condolences to the Rigsby family upon the passing of Deaton Rigsby. His service as an elected official on both the Lubbock City Council and LISD Board of Trustees, as well as his efforts as a founding member of Voice of Hope: Lubbock Rape Crisis Center, reflect the legacy of a true public servant. As we approach the 49th anniversary of the Lubbock Tornado, it is appropriate to remember Deaton Rigsby and express our appreciation for his service during that tragic time and for his wise leadership in the aftermath of the 1970 tornado.”

Rigsby served on the Board from 1979 to 1986. Lubbock ISD released the following statement Monday evening:

"Deaton Rigsby was a dedicated public servant, devoting years of leadership to the community and public education. He was a real gentleman who was selfless with his time and energy for the betterment of Lubbock and Lubbock ISD."
