South Plains Food Bank to “Stamp Out Hunger” across the South Plains

LUBBOCK, Texas -

(Press Release)

Saturday, May 11th marks the 27th anniversary of one of America’s greatest days of giving — the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Letter carriers walk through the community every day, often coming face to face with a sad reality for too many—hunger.

Each year on the second Saturday in May, letter carriers across the country collect non-perishable food donations from the community. The donations the NALC of Lubbock collect locally go directly to the South Plains Food Bank to provide food to people who need our help. Last year, the National Association of Letter Carriers collected over 40,000 pounds of food from right here in Lubbock.

The need for food donations is great, especially now that summer is coming. 1 in 8 people are unsure where their next meal is coming from, of that, 1 in 4 are children.

“The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is crucial,” said Vanessa Morelion, Communications Manager at the South Plains Food Bank. “Summer is about the time that we run low on donations from the winter holidays. We want to be able to provide our families with what they need for nourishment.”

Participating in the Letter Carrier Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is easy. Just leave a nonperishable food donation in a bag by your mailbox on Saturday, May 11th, before mail delivery, and your letter carrier will do the rest.

We will also have our local mail carriers from Freedom Station bring some of your donations straight to the food bank on Saturday. Please help us in the fight to end hunger.
