Another risk for severe weather today and Tuesday

Another risk for severe weather today and Tuesday

LUBBOCK, Texas -

A very active weekend across the south Plains with large hail and damage from tornadoes. Thankfully yesterday's long lived and large tornado in Lynn county, passes just to the east of Tahoka. There has been no injury or death reports, but damage to farm equipment and a house was reported.

TODAY: High near 86, south/southeast wind will become breezy 12-25mph. Another risk for severe storms with the dryline starting this afternoon. The Storm Predication center has given a slight risk (2/5) for parts of the northern South Plains. The risk include large hail with a lower but still possible risk of tornadoes.

TONIGHT: Low near 62, few showers and storms will continue to develop with a lower risk to become severe.

TUESDAY: A storm system will be pushing into the region from the southwest. This will lift the moist atmosphere providing a better chance for storm development. Also a greater risk for tornadoes with a higher amount of shear in place with very large hail likely with severe storms. Storm prediction Center has the Elevated risk (3/5) for Tuesday, this will likely change through today and Tuesday.

EXTENDED: The storm system will drop a cold front with drier air filtering in Wednesday. Temperatures will drop below normal with highs in the 60s through Saturday. Another storms system will be digging south along the west coast providing us with more moisture and rain chances expected starting late Friday through the weekend.

Have a great Monday and stay weather aware with potential severe storms today. Matt with the updated forecast and severe weather coverage tonight on the News at Nine.
