Lasting chance for storms starting today

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Drizzle and areas of fog will continue this early morning with some showers developing in the later morning.

TODAY: Staying mostly cloudy early with clouds breaking up this afternoon. Warmer temperatures where more sunshine occurs with highs ranging from the upper 60s to the upper 70s. High near 71 for Lubbock with a light southeast-east wind 5-15mph. Then likely for storms will develop near the TX/NM border around 3-5PM and push southeast. Some storms will be strong to severe as the move across the area with hail sizes around one inch and damaging wind gusts.

TONIGHT: Showers and storms will continue to push out of our area with rain chances ending around midnight. Low near 51, areas of drizzle and fog possible again in the morning.

WEEKEND: Saturday a little bit more sunshine during the day with the high near 75. There will be some storms developing along the dry line in New Mexico then pushing into the area. Timing on these in our area is in the evening hours with chances diminishing early Sunday. Dry line setting up for the same thing Sunday with storms later, high warmer nearing 81.

NEXT WEEK: On and off chances for storms will continue as a storms system from the west brings Pacific moisture and lift to our area. At least a slight chance for storms to develop as moisture will stay in place across the area. Highs will be warmer to start the week followed by another cold down late in the week.

Have a great Friday and weekend! Matt will keep you up to date on the storms this afternoon and have the latest forecast update tonight on the News at Nine.
