Chance for storms Friday, active pattern ahead

Chance for storms Friday, active pattern ahead

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

TONIGHT: The clouds will stay in place through the night, likely with some fog and even drizzle. The temperature won't drop much, low near 54.

FRIDAY: Cloudy early with some sun during the afternoon. We're forecasting low 70s in Lubbock, though the temperature forecast is pretty tricky. If we see a good amount of sun already by mid-day, it'll be warmer and, as a result, there will be more instability for storms.

Some upper-level support should move across the region in the afternoon, bringing us a chance for storms. Some storms could become strong to severe. The severe forecast is tricky, again, because we aren't certain on the temperature. Primary threat will be hail.

NEXT FEW DAYS: The storm chance is lower Saturday, though we may see a few storms by the evening.

The storm chance goes a little bit higher Sunday and Monday. We'll still have support for at least a few storms in the area through Wednesday. And some computer models even show support through the end of next week.

All in all, it looks fairly active. There isn't any one day that screams severe weather. But there will be the possibility for severe storms several of the upcoming days.

In these set-ups, the overall coverage of storms is often fairly limited. So we'll probably have a few storms each day, but not everyone will get rain or a storm each day.

7-day forecast

Our team will be watching this pattern closely and providing updates here in the coming days. Welcome to May.
