TTUHSC School of Pharmacy to host Medication Cleanout Saturday

Posted: Updated:

Once citizens are finished running or walking on Saturday, they are invited to clean out their medicine cabinets.

The Texas Tech Health Sciences Center's School of Pharmacy will host a Medication Cleanout to help properly dispose of old medication. It is to prevent children from poisoning themselves or teens experimenting with them.

"If we flush them down the toilet, wash them down the drain, or even throw them in the trash, they can end up in our environment or in our water system," Jeanie Jaramillo-Stametz, director of the Texas Panhandle Poison Center, said. "So we'd really like for people to bring them to us so we can dispose of them properly."

People can also bring unused or old syringes, allergy shots, insulin injections or sharp medical tools. The cleanout will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Physician's Medical Pavilion, located at 3601 Fourth St.
