Lubbock County Commissioners make severe weather agreement with Littlefield prison

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock County has made an agreement with a privately owned prison out of Littlefield.

If a disaster like severe weather were to strike and displace inmates, some would be able to be relocated to the Lubbock County Detention Center. Chief Deputy of Detention Operations Cody Scott said these agreements are routine and in place to meet state requirements.

However, if Lubbock facilities were affected, Scott said a similar plan would take effect.

"We can isolate certain parts of the jail, so if one particular part was affected we can isolate that part off and not use it and possibly just move inmates to another part of this facility," he said. "If it was a larger issue, then we would have to look at inmates at other local jails around the area."

Deputy Scott said it's unlikely these facilities will be damaged since they're weather-resistant and reinforced with concrete.
