THIS AFTERNOON: It's been a nasty, windy day. Much of the area has had a gust to around 50mph today. Some of the top gusts on the Texas Tech Mesonet:
Happy 54 mph
Reese Center 53mph
Denver City 51mph
It's also been a relatively warm day, 60s across much of the region with a few 70s off of the Caprock.
TONIGHT: The wind will drop off some, but will still be pretty gusty through early morning. There also could be a few light rain or rain-snow showers. These won't bring much precipitation. Here's a look at the current radar:
Low near 30, wind chill low 20s.
TOMORROW: Windy in the morning, the wind dropping off pretty quickly through the afternoon. Sunny, high 55. Wind NNW 12-28mph.
SUNDAY: Milder and mostly sunny, high 65.
NEXT WEEK: Mid to upper 70s and windy on MLK Day. Another fairly strong front will move across the area Monday night, dropping the high nearly 30 degrees for Tuesday.
The wind should kick up some more Thursday and Friday. There is a lot of disagreement for next weekend. There is consistency showing a real cold setup for the eastern half of the country late next week into next weekend, but we don't yet know if the cold air will make it here.
Have a great weekend. Robert will have a full update to your forecast here Saturday afternoon.
