Warm and windy this afternoon, cooler this weekend

LUBBOCK, Texas -

TODAY: A strong wind will take over as an upper level low pressure system moves across the region. A wind advisory is in place from 11A to 9P, sustain wind speeds 20-35mph with gusts to 50mph through the day. Blowing dust likely with cloud cover increasing through the day, high near 66.

TONIGHT: This system will send a cold front through the South Plains lifting the atmosphere. This will bring a slight chance for some showers with a few flurries possible into the early morning hours. Low near 31, clouds will clear by morning, but the wind will stay strong changing to the north/northwest.

WEEKEND: Staying windy through Saturday with calmer wind by the evening. Lots of sunshine in store for the area with cooler high temperatures. Saturday we will drop to the 50s, Sunday warming to the 60s.

NEXT WEEK: Another low pressure system will again bring the strong wind for the area to start the week. Dropping highs into the 40s Tuesday ans staying cooler through mid week.

Have a great Friday, be safe if you are driving a high profile vehicle with this strong wind. Matt will have the latest updates to the forecast on the News at Nine.
