South Plains Food Bank prepared to assist federal employees during shutdown

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The South Plains Food Bank (SPFB), along with a large network of food banks, is preparing to assist those individuals who have been negatively impacted by the Government Shutdown.

After 26 days, government employees are finding themselves in difficult financial situations due to unpaid wages. The SPFB is prepared to assist those families with food boxes, food pantries and other services they provide.

“None of these individuals brought this burden on themselves,” David Weaver, CEO of the SPFB, said. “This is an unexpected and unfortunate life circumstance that no amount of preparation could have eased. We as a food bank, and as a community, need to make sure we are fulfilling our civic duties and taking care of each other.”

It was announced Thursday morning that the Government Shutdown would be considered a Household Crisis situation, and that food banks around the nation would be provided the means necessary to assist federal employees for the duration of the shutdown.
