Lubbock barber shop offers free cuts for federal employees

LUBBOCK, Texas -

As the uncertainty of the government shutdown remains, a Lubbock barber shop is trying to help alleviate the blow on the expenses federal employees may have by offering free hair cuts. Johnny Martinez owns Fade Masters Barber Shop near 50th and University and said haircuts are his way of helping out.

"You know we have all encountered hard times ourselves and figured it would be nice to help some people out," said Martinez. "So what we are doing right now is offering free haircuts to employees who are not receiving any wages."

The only requirement needed to get the fresh cut is to bring in some sort of federal identification any federal employee on furlough or working without pay is eligible.

"A good haircut can go a long way," said Martinez. "It can make you feel good about yourself especially when you are not receiving these wages, it's a small gesture, but it goes a long way."

Fade Masters Barber Shop will keep this offer open as long as the government stays closed.
