Texas Tech has defeated Texas for the first time in 23 years in Austin, 68 to 62. They improve to 15-1 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.

The Red Raiders and Longhorns were trading baskets in the first half, and Texas led 30-26 at the break. Texas Tech adapted in the second half, outscoring the Longhorns 42 to 32 in that span. South Dakota graduate transfer Matt Mooney led the way with 22 points, 14 of which came in the second half. He shot 80% from the field (8-10) and was perfect from beyond the arc (3-3). Jarrett Culver added 13 points, six assists and nine rebounds while Tariq Owens had 12 points and 4 blocks. He has recorded at least one block in all 16 games the Red Raiders have played this season.

Brandone Francis' struggles from beyond the arc continued. He was 1-7, but the three he made gave the Red Raiders a 61-51 advantage with 3:36 remaining to put the game out of reach.

Texas Tech's 4-0 start in conference play is the program's best since the 2003-04 season. The Red Raiders will return to United Supermarkets Arena for their next game Wednesday, January 16th, against #20 Iowa State.
