Latest details on snow chances for the area

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Cloudy and cold this morning with wind chills in the teens.

TODAY: High just a few degrees above freezing near 34. Mostly cloudy, but models do show the possibility for sunshine for the northern half of the area. More clouds with a chance for some light mixed precipitation for our southeastern counties.

TEXAS: Traveling could become an issue into the Big Country and towards Dallas along I-20. Some mixed precipitation with areas of heavy rain possible at times. Here are the weather alerts (Gray Boxes: Winter Weather Advisory/ Blue Boxes: Winter Storm Watch) this morning at 7am:

WINTER STORM WATCH: For much of the area we are under a Winter Storm Watch for this evening into Thursday afternoon. Tonight a disturbance will move across the area lifting the atmosphere and giving us a chance for snow. Models have been reducing amounts this morning with heavier accumulations to the east. Still some localized areas could get 4"-6", most of us should stay in the range of a dusting to 2". This could change by tonight with the newer model runs so stay tuned in tonight on the News at Nine for the latest updates.

EXTENDED: This system will be clearing out Thursday and moving east. Warmer temperatures and sunshine takes over with comfortable highs this weekend. Another front is expected to start next week, this is looking more like a wind event with more cloud cover for a few days.

Have a great Wednesday!
