Cold front last night is bringing some extremely cold temperatures to the New Year! Current wind chills below.... brrrrr
TODAY: High near 29, mostly cloudy with the northeast wind backing to 5-15 this afternoon. This means wind chills will stay in the teens and low 20s through the afternoon.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with the low near 16. There will be a chance for some freezing drizzle and some flurries. This activity will remain light, but might leave some slick spots on the roads for Wednesday.
WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY: Staying below freezing until Thursday afternoon. A disturbance will continue to push out of southern New Mexico and march through the Big Country. This will help to lift the atmosphere for us. A slight chance for some snow and freezing drizzle through the Wednesday. Then late Wednesday into Thursday we will have a better chance for the wintry precipitation. Models are agreeing on a few inches of snow across the South Plains. Higher amounts of snow and ice for the Rolling Plains and further east. This will likely cause some major traffic concerns along I-20.
EXTENDED: The system will push east and the cloud cover will clear. Sunny sky and warmer temperatures starting Friday and staying mild through the weekend.
Have a great first day of 2019! Stay warm and Matt will have the next updated forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
