Much colder next few days, snow starting Friday

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The wind has stayed gusty through the overnight hours. Some wind gusts have been in the 40-50mph range.

TODAY: The wind will calm to around 5-15mph this afternoon changing to the northeast. High near 47, with a mixture of clouds and sunshine.

TONIGHT: Cloud cover increasing with the low near 24.

FRIDAY & SATURDAY: Attention will turn west as a low pressure system pushes in to the 4-corner region. This will bring a good chance for snow in New Mexico with amounts 12" or more in some locations. They currently have Winter Weather Advisory in place for this event. This system will push into the South Plains bringing lower amounts of snow starting late Friday into Saturday. We will also have some very cold temperatures with the lows in the teens and 20s, highs in the 30s.

EXTENDED: Things are looking dry into the New Year, the cold temperatures will stick around though. Another cold front will reinforce this cold air on New Years Day with highs near freezing.

Have a great Thursday! Robert will have the next update to the forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
