Man stabbed after trying to stop car burglary

LUBBOCK, Texas -

A man is hospitalized after being stabbed during an attempted burglary. 

Friday evening, Lubbock Police received a call about a male trying to break into vehicles near Economy Paint and Body in the 2100 block of 19th street.

Police report an employee confronted the suspect and an altercation broke out. The suspect stabbed the 56-year-old male employee multiple times.

A second employee with a gun came out to help and fire several warning shots.

Officers arrived on scene and arrested the suspect, 43-year-old Mark Cano. The employee who was stabbed was taken by ambulance to the hospital. He has serious but non-life threatening injuries. 

Cano was also transported to the hospital for minor injuries before being booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center for aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.
