Rush Elementary 'No Limits Crew' on a giving mission

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Rush Elementary's Structured Learning Classroom prefers to go out to learn specific lessons. For several months now, the group has been on a mission to give back, particularly to the homeless population.

"We are called the no limits crew and we believe there is nothing we cannot do," Teacher Karen Thetford said.

Thetford prefers to look for unique ways to teach.

"We started in November, we started looking at our community and looking at our needs our community and we realize there's a whole lot of people that don't have what we have," Thetford said.

The class began a donation drive for homeless people by collecting clothes, hygiene items, and food. Tuesday morning, the crew set out to deliver those donations and gain some insight.

"We want to be putting forth effort, we wanna be benefiting people," Thetford said. "We want to have jobs, we want to be doing those things and every six weeks we go somewhere and we learn something we can do when we're older."

The kids split their donations, giving to both Open Door and the Lubbock Dream Center.

"We appreciate when the community is a part of that process," Andrea Omojola with Open Door said. "When people are involved, when kids in particular want to make sure people are taken care of."

Each non-profit gave a tour and allowed these kids to see first hand how their good deed is being put to use.
