LEA COUNTY, New Mexico -

A 52-year-old Mexican National, with an active warrant in Mexico for murder, was sentenced to fifteen years in a plea deal reached in Lovington District Court.

Ruiz was a transient, often living on the street and moving from location to location. In a joint investigation with the Lea County Sheriff's Office, Lovington Police Detectives were able to connect Ruiz to the crimes after receiving DNA evidence.

Some of the many offenses Ruiz pleaded guilty to today involve at least six different investigations which include: forgery (multiple counts), residential burglary (multiple counts), aggravated fleeing of a law enforcement officer, receiving or transferring a stolen motor vehicle (multiple count), unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, criminal damage to property, receiving stolen property (firearm), larceny, injuring or tampering with a motor vehicle, concealing identity, and possession of a controlled Substance.

After serving his sentence in the New Mexico Department of Corrections, Ruiz will be extradited to Mexico, where he has an active warrant for murder.
