Lubbock Fire Rescue sent off a former chief with traditional firefighter honors Friday.
Division Chief Michael Lewis died Saturday from complications from his battle with cancer. Lewis served 28 years with the department, the longest-tenured LFR member.
Battalion Chief Steve Holland says Lewis will be remembered for his willingness to serve and help anyone in need.
"He's going to be greatly missed," Holland said. "And he had a passion for firefighting and for making Lubbock Fire Rescue one of the best departments he could. And not just for the department, but so we serve the citizens of Lubbock like we should. And he just had a passion, servant's heart."
Lewis was 56.
