Goodwill hosts free document shredding to support America Recycles Day

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Last year document destruction at Goodwill employed 17 individuals, resulting in more than $351,000 in wages, employer taxes and benefits.

To celebrate America Recycles Day, Goodwill and Sanford & Tatum Insurance partnered in support of the national initiative. On Thursday free document shredding was offered.

Goodwill CEO Robin Raney said it's a chance to help share a cost-effective way to be environmentally conscious, while also supporting the area's job market.

"And everything that we do in this business goes back to serve our purpose of helping people with barriers to employment in our community. All of the revenue that we receive on the document destruction goes back to serve that purpose," Randy Harvey, with Goodwill, said.

Cannon said the documents from Shred Day are recycled and the service is provided to more than 60 counties in the West Texas region.
