LUBBOCK, Texas -

Two Navy SEAL's and two Marines face murder charges for the death of a Green Beret from Lubbock.

Army Staff Sergeant Logan Melgar, a Frenship graduate, died by asphyxiation near the American Embassy in Mali in June of last year. Sources report the accused operators were taking money from a fund used to pay informants. They claim Melgar learned about the theft and refused to take a cut.

Sources said the operators got into a fight with Melgar, then he died. The Seals and another Green Beret took him to the hospital.

The four defendants are also charged with involuntary manslaughter, conspiracy, obstruction of justice, hazing and burglary.

A military hearing is scheduled for early next month.

Melgar enlisted back in 2012 and started Special Forces training the next year. He served two tours in Afghanistan.

Melgar was part of the third Special Forces Group, primarily responsible for Special Operations in Northwest Africa, including Mali and Niger.
