LUBBOCK, Texas -

Winter is coming And these freezing temperatures mean it's time to prep your home for it.

A couple major issues to watch out for, the locks and seals on your windows and cracks in your walls from the extreme cold. Make sure your faucets are dripping to keep them from freezing.

"So winterizing your home is important just because there's a few things that it can affect," Remy Rios, of Betenbough Homes, said. "Obviously, it can affect your utility bills. It can affect as far as being to control the temperature in your homes. And also even affect being able to have running water in your home."

Since this week's likely been the first time you've used your heater since March, get a pro to check your furnaces.

They'll be looking for carbon monoxide leaks or other potentially fatal hazards.
