LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock's Professional Firefighters donate coats to Overton Elementary School students.

Operation Warm is a national non-profit program dedicated to providing coats to low-income families and neighborhoods.

"This is the fun side of our job. This is where we actually give back to the community. We enjoy doing this," Lubbock Fire Rescue Captain Chris Kemp said. "The thing is, when I first started this, I had one kid ask me 'do I really get to keep this coat? Is this my coat?' And from that point on I made it my mission to keep this program going. It's sad to see kids without coats. So, that's why we're doing it."

The Firefighters association has been collecting coats for kids for five years. Kemp said next years goal is to assist 800 students.
