Texas Tech Recognized by NAFSA for Comprehensive Internationalization

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Texas Tech University recognized for its "international-ization".

President Lawrence Schoveanec was featured at the Association of International Educators. Schovanec said teaching students in a diverse, culturally rich environment is a central part of its contributions to an evolving, globally competent workforce.

"In 1925, at the first student convocation, the president said 'this country lends itself to big thoughts and broad thoughts. Let our thinking be in world-wide terms.' And that was pretty insightful in 1925, but I think it speaks to the genetic makeup of universities," he said. "This is part of what we need to do. We need to do this for our students, we need to do it for the faculty. And always keep in mind knowledge is not a zero sum-game."

Schovanec goes on to say international connections provide opportunities for students and research that address global problems.

Tech was one of five institutions to receive the Comprehensive Internationalization Award.
