Wet roads and freezing temperature - FOX34 Lubbock

Wet roads and freezing temperature

Posted: Updated:

We had rain/ sleet early this morning in Lubbock. Heavier snow has fallen for the northern counties, TXdot cameras had snow on the side of the roads from Hale Center and points north.

Temperatures will continue to drop below freezing. Give yourself extra time on your morning commute as road conditions may worsen. Bridges and overpasses usually are the first to freeze.  North wind ranges 15-30mph, the wind chill is in the teens and lower double digits.

TODAY: This system that is bringing the moisture will move out of the area today. Lower chances for snow and mixed precipitation after lunch hours. Staying mostly cloudy with the high near 33. The north wind will increase for the afternoon 20-30mph, with gusts high as 40mph.

TONIGHT: Clouds will start to break apart later in the day, clearing overnight. This will allow colder morning lows for the area, low near 20. North wind will calm to near 10mph, wind chills in the single digits to lower teens.

TUESDAY: Staying cold with the high near 43, but sunshine through the day.

EXTENDED: Highs will continue to climb to the upper 50s and 60 by Thursday. Clear, sunny sky through the week. Clouds increasing this weekend with another front in the area, dropping highs to the 50s.

Remember to drive slower and leave extra room between you and the cars around you. Stay warm!! Watch us for the latest updates on Good Day Lubbock 5-9A, plus FOX34's Facebook and Twitter pages. Matt will have the next update to the weeks forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
