Very cold and snow to start the work week - FOX34 Lubbock

Very cold and snow to start the work week

Posted: Updated:

It was a breezy afternoon with temperatures in the 50s.

TONIGHT: Another cold one with the low near 36. The southerly wind will stay a light breeze 10-15mph.

SUNDAY: The strongest front of the season will push through the area during the day. This will bring a range in highs from the low 40s north and 60s south. Lubbock's high near 53, this front will announce itself too with a strong north wind 15-30mph. We will start the day with a clear sky, but will become cloudy with this front and might have a few light showers.

SNOW TO START THE WEEK:  A quick disturbance will bring the wintry precipitation across much of the area. Higher snow amount are trending for the northern counties where totals could be 2-4". How far south this heavier snow goes is the question. Models are bringing Lubbock any where from a dusting to 1-3". Give yourself extra time for your morning commute Monday morning. This system will move out with a clear sky by Monday night.

A Winter Storm Watch is in place for the northern counties where the heavier amount are expected.

TEMPERATURES: Overnight Sunday temperatures will plummet below freezing... don't forget about the strong north wind. This will make it feel like teens and single digit temperatures Monday morning. We might have a 36 hour period where temperatures stay near or below freezing. From early Monday morning all the way until Tuesday afternoon. Slowly warming up for the rest of the week.

Stay updated on this event after the Tech game on FOX34 News at Nine. Robert will have the next update tomorrow. Have a great rest of your night!
