Frankford and 82nd natural gas flare, expect delays

Posted: Updated:

Atmos Energy will be conducting a controlled natural gas flaring on November 7th, starting around 9:30am at the intersection of Frankford and 82nd Avenue.

"Flaring" is a standard industry practice to safely burn natural gas that must be removed from a specific section of pipeline, so employees can work on the pipe.  People in the area can expect to see large, controlled flame, and moderate noise for about an hour.

Atmos Energy says contractors will be replacing valves on a section of natural gas pipeline as part of normal, routine maintenance.

Lubbock Fire Department will have units on scene during the operation to monitor progress and for safety precautions.

Avoid the area if possible.
