Communities In Schools of the South Plains receives $5,000 grant

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Communities In Schools of the South Plains (CIS) has received a $5,000 grant from the Community Foundation of West Texas to continue the CIS Emergency Fund established last school year with the Foundation’s assistance. The Emergency Fund provides basic needs and hygiene items for at-risk students who receive support from Communities In Schools.

The mission of Communities In Schools of the South Plains is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. The objective is to prevent at-risk students from dropping out of school by giving them the tools they need to be successful. Chartered by the national Communities In Schools office in 2000, Communities In Schools of the South Plains has since increased the number of students served from 100 on three campuses to approximately 3,000 students on 60 campuses in 15 school districts for the 2018 – 2019 school year.

Regarding the gift from the Community Foundation of West Texas, Communities In Schools CEO, Kenna West, said “We are so grateful for the Community Foundation of West Texas and their generosity.  This funding provides crucial support for the children we serve, helping us to remove obstacles in their paths and therefore gifting them with the opportunity to receive an education that initiates success in life.  Thank you to the Community Foundation of West Texas!”
