4.0 magnitude earthquake north of Amarillo Saturday

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The ground shook around Amarillo just after sunrise Saturday morning.

According to the USGS, a 4.0 magnitude earthquake occurred at 8:04 a.m. about nine miles NNE of Amarillo. Some people in the city felt the shake. 

The earthquake had a depth of 3.32 miles.

According to this Texas Earthquake history site from the University of Texas, this is the strongest quake recorded in Potter County since a 4.2 magnitude in 1951.
