Women's Protective Services holds candlelight vigil for domestic violence victims

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock Women's Protective Services commemorating the lives of 136 Texas women killed by their intimate partners last year. Community education and outreach coordinator, Steven Garcia, said victims don't have to suffer in silence and encourages them to reach out.

The candlelight vigil at Our Lady of Grace Church intended to offer inspiration to victims still suffering.

"It's also important to raise awareness to keep it at the forefront. It's extremely critical that society and the public conscience never take their mind off of domestic violence," Garcia said.

Garcia added 20 victims are assaulted by their partners every minute in the United States.
