American Heart Association hosts annual heart walk

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The American Heart Association hosts it's annual heart walk working to build healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

Cardiovascular disease remains the number one killer in America, while stroke is number five.

Kyla Davis suffered from a pregnancy-related heart failure. She had to under-go open heart surgery about two years ago, but the now survivor tries her best to educate others about heart health.

"It's an epidemic and we've got to stop. We've gotta see better awareness, better care, so people aren't dying unnecessarily at too young of an age. I'm a miracle that I'm alive and I shouldn't have gotten as bad as I did," Davis said.

All the funds raised will go towards research, education and advocacy efforts of the Association.
