LUBBOCK, Texas -

(Press Release)

The Texas Tech University School of Music, housed within the J.T & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts, will host a horn and violin guest artist recital featuring Howard Wall and Elmira Darvarova at 7 p.m. Monday (Oct. 15) at Hemmle Recital Hall.

“Music From Five Centuries” includes selections from the 17th – 21st centuries and spans diverse styles and genres like renaissance, classical and contemporary music, blues, jazz, folk, tango, flamenco and rock. The selection includes works by Johann Bach, George Handel, Wolfgang Mozart, Astor Piazzolla, and more presented in solos and duos for violin and horn.

Darvarova is a Grammy-nominated violinist who is the only female concertmaster in the history of The Metropolitan Opera in New York. Musical partner and husband Wall is a long-time hornist with The Philadelphia Orchestra and The New York Philharmonic. The pair has performed this program throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.

“It is important for our music students to see the journey that various musicians travel to arrive where they are today,” said Clara Zahler, professor of practice in the School of Music. “Their residency will hopefully inspire our students to reach for what might seem the unreachable.”

Darvarova will hold master classes from 4-6 p.m. Monday (Oct. 15) in Hemmle Recital Hall and from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 16) in the School of Music, room 206. Wall will hold a master class from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 16) in Hemmle Recital Hall.

The performance and master classes are free and open to the public. For more information visit the School of Music Facebook page.
