Lovington police respond to possible home invasion, minor and 20-year-old arrested

Lovington Police responded to a report of a possible home invasion and gunshots being fired in the 300 block of North Eddy Street.

The incident involved a continuing dispute between two groups and was not a random home invasion. Responding officers detained two men. A juvenile was injured in the confrontation and transported to a Texas hospital. 

Gabriel Sebastian Ruiz, 20, was arrested Tuesday. Ruiz is charged with shooting at a dwelling, conspiracy to commit a second degree felony, tampering with evidence, shooting at or from a motor vehicle and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. 

He is held at the Lea County Detention Center without bond. 

Portions of North Eddy, Jackson and East streets were temporarily closed while Lovington detectives executed search warrants and processed the crime scenes.
