LUBBOCK, Texas -

The National Weather Service Lubbock office, along with an assist from the FOX34 staff, collected a large batch of school supplies for the kids sheltering at Women's Protective Services.

Unfortunately, the demand is great year-round.

"Domestic violence doesn't end just when school starts or school ends," said Rachelle Martinez with WPS. "It can be any time. So, these kids could come in in the middle of the night and sometimes they come in with absolutely nothing. So for them to have to start a new school...or having to start with new friends and stuff...it's good that we have new school supplies and clothes for them provided.

"So they're not embarrassed coming from some place they don't have anything."

This school supply drive is part of the Weather Service's annual week of service, which happens at offices all around the country.

Women's Protective Services also needs donations for the women it serves. If you'd like to help, click here.

At approximately 1:00 p.m., the Lubbock Police Department received calls from several different businesses referencing a bomb threat made through email. All emails are demanding payments through Bitcoin. At this time, no suspicious packages have been located and it appears the email is possibly a scam.
