LUBBOCK, Texas -

The cotton industry in the mid-south has faced some changes.

The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce hosted its Harvest Luncheon to celebrate Lubbock's agriculture. Center Head of the Mississippi University Delta Research and Extension Center, Jeff Johnson, said areas in the mid-south and West Texas have similar history in cotton production, but have recently lost acres to boost corn and soybeans.

"It's not going to affect cotton production on the South Plains, this is cotton country, it's always going to be, you know for the foreseeable future this is going to be cotton country. And so I don't know if it's going to affect has much of the south plains as far as cotton production," Johnson said.

He said there's more to the farm bill, making it difficult to determine how it will affect cotton production in the U.S.
