MILD MORNING: It's in the 60s and lower 70s across our area this morning, S wind 10-15mph. It's pretty clear around our region, with a lot of showers and storms in NE Oklahoma and some storms, even severe ones, in Arizona.
There is a cold front in the Panhandle that'll move south, closer to Lubbock today. In the mid and upper levels there's a ridge of high pressure across the Gulf Coast and what was an upper low around California is now headed east as a weakening wave. Behind this, a bigger and deeper trough will set up over the west with a big ridge to the east. This means warm weather over the East, with a fairly wet pattern here and cold air over parts of the NW.
TODAY: High near 89, partly cloudy. Wind SW/S 10-15mph.
It won't be as warm north of the city. We expect the front to wind up somewhere just north of Lubbock. If it pushes just a little farther south then we'll only reach the lower 80s here in the city.
This afternoon into the evening there's a chance for a few storms. Some may be strong, though the severe risk is fairly low.
TONIGHT: Low near 65, partly cloudy. Wind S 10-15mph.
TOMORROW: Warm and partly cloudy again, high near 87. Wind S 10-18mph. Chance for storms is later...mainly tomorrow evening into late tomorrow night.
WEEKEND: With the big trough setting up out west, it'll send impulses across our region helping the development of showers and storms. Because the trough will stay out west, it brings several days in a row of storm chances.
At this point the rain and storm chance is higher Saturday and Sunday, slowly dropping through middle of next week. And with a lot of humidity in place, some heavy rain will be possible. While not the case for all of the area, some of us may pick up 1" to 2" of rain now through next Wednesday. Not exactly what's needed in the middle of Harvest.
A few strong storms are possible next few days. Right now Sunday looks more favorable for severe weather. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted much of our region Sunday for this potential.
If there is rain early or clouds hang around, it may be too cool for severe weather. We'll be watching this over the next few days.
Have a great day. Look for the next update here later this afternoon.
