National Night Out encourages relationships with law enforcement

LUBBOCK, Texas -

National Night Out encourages law enforcement and neighborhood fellowship.

The event promotes making surrounding neighborhoods, like West End, a safer place to live. Captain Jeanelle Wadkins said it's important for law enforcement to make connections with the citizens they serve and added the event allows them meet with people they wouldn't normally get to talk to.

"I mean, not only do they need our help, but we need their help as well. You know, it's important for them to be able to trust us. Whether it's, you know, it's just information or that when we show up there in a time of crisis that they trust that we're going to have their best interest at heart. And so, it's vital, for us to have a good relationship and for us to trust each other," she said.

This is the second year West End hosted National Night Out and officers are eager to continue growing relationships with citizens.
