LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Department of Justice invests $70 million to boost school safety nationwide.

This grant comes from the "Stop School Violence Act" signed into law by President Trump. It provides new technology for threat detection and reporting measures, as well as increased training for students, teachers, administrators and first responders.

The DOJ is also spending $1 million in research to better understand the patterns and potential precursors to mass shootings in schools, in an effort to build a risk prediction tool going forward.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said the grant will go a long way towards giving students and families both safety and peace of mind.
