Gov. Abbott says 'cult like' hype around O'Rourke's campaign won't win him the election

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Governor Abbott says the "cult like" hype around Congressman Beto O'Rourke's campaign aren't going to win him the election.

The El Paso Democrat is running to unseat Senator Ted Cruz. Recalling the hype surrounding Democratic Governor candidate Wendy Davis back in 2014, the Governor says most Texans don't follow O'Rourke's policies.

"He's talking about wealth redistribution through the imposition of more taxes, he's talking about open borders in this state, which most Texans are hostile to. Listen, they don't want the George Soros policies here in the state of Texas," Governor Abbott said.

Recent polling has shown Cruz and O'Rourke within the margin of error, calling the race a toss up.

The two were supposed to debate Sunday, but was been postponed due to the Kavanaugh hearings keeping Senator Cruz in Washington.

The next debate is scheduled for October 16 in San Antonio.
