Kindle Hope: Ignites hope through benefit concert

Posted: Updated:

Kindle Hope started as a middle school service club, now it's a non-profit igniting hope through music, art, and volunteering to serve unprivileged children. After starting it in the sixth grade, Gabriella Ghandour realized the Kindle Hope club's impact could grow with a conversion.

"It started out just like a group of girls who you know we went around to hospitals and went to the children's home and we played with kids and gave them coloring books things of that nature," said Ghandour. "So this summer we officially made it a 501-C3 by the state of Texas, so now Kindle Hope is working to bring music to people's lives and happiness and to raise money for unprivileged children."

Ghandour said she came up with Kindle Hope when she was 11 years old after hearing and watching the Syrian civil war on TV.

"On the news we saw footage of kids who were crying and starving on the streets and it's my home country and I really felt like something compelling me to do something about it," said Ghandour. "I couldn't do anything obviously about it, so I thought I'll just start in Lubbock and Kindle was a vocabulary word in class that means ignite so I just said Kindle Hope."

Over the last few years she and her friends have volunteered and fundraised $500 for Covenant Children's Hospital and $700 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Southwest. Now the goal's $10,000 to help the Buckner's Family Hope Center.

Buckner Lubbock is a faith-based nonprofit ministry dedicated to transforming the lives of vulnerable children, families and senior adults. It is an extension of Buckner International. The money raised by the Kindle Hope benefit concert will go towards Lubbock’s first Buckner Family Hope Center, which is currently under construction.

The concert will be this Saturday September 22nd at the Moonlight Musicals Amphitheater, you can buy tickets following this link:
