The Double T 97-3 staff answers "With the non-conference over for most of the big 12, what have you learned about the conference?"
Jamie Lent - The Morning Drive and Press Box
I don't think I have learned anything different than I expected. I thought OU, WVU, TCU, and OSU would finish in the top half and it looks like they will. Beyond that, I thought the next five spots would be up for grabs and I absolutely think that is the case. Any of those teams can beat the other four. It should be really fun watching these teams go at it the rest of the year.
And oh yea....I thought Kansas would finish last and I still think that will be the case.
Zach Logsdon - The Morning Drive and End of the Bench
Week 3 was huge for the conference I think. We already knew OU was really good/great, and West Virginia has established themselves as a solid number 2. But with OSU and Tech blowing the doors off respected G5 teams and TCU hanging tough with a top 5 program, I think the middle of the conference really showed it's no pushover. Oh, and Texas is back (?).
Jeff McGuire - End of the Bench and Bottom Line
Learned is a bit of a stretch, but having things confirmed for sure. Oklahoma is the class of the league. West Virginia and TCU right behind that with OSU nipping at their heels. The bottom half of the conference looks about as wide open as we thought minus Kansas sitting at the bottom. The Baylor loss to Duke will come back to bite the Big 12 in the our conference is better than yours conversation. Then again, Ole Miss and Ohio State already set that up very well.
Chois Woodman - The Bottom Line
I think we have learned that the conference is not that great at the back half. You could make an argument that Texas Tech is the fifth best team in the Big 12 right now. The top 4 teams in the league are decent, but the conference as a whole has not looked good nationally.
Rob Verby - The Press Box and Fox34 Sports
It’s really tough to tell for me. Still early obviously, but Ok St seems legit as do OU and WVU. Texas has a nice win over USC but still think they’re overrated. TCU played Ohio St tough. Jayhawks are back! Just keep kidding. Baylor is bad.. Clones are always dangerous. Red Raiders could make a push for top 5 in Big 12 if defense can limit big plays allowed.. too many against Ole Miss and Houston. But I think this Bowman guy is pretty good!
Zach Sparkman - The Press Box and Tech Talk
My takeaways so far. Oklahoma is conference favorite. West Virginia might not be as overrated as we might have thought. TCU and Oklahoma State are both contenders for the conference title. Texas does not appear to be back. Iowa State and Kansas State are not the dark horse contenders some thought they could be. Tech has surprised in a good way on offense and in not such a good way on defense. Kansas might not get last in the conference because Matt Rhule and Baylor are not quite rolling yet.
