Lubbock Chamber shows support in proposed Lubbock ISD bond election

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce throwing its support behind Lubbock ISD's proposed bond election.

The $130 million proposal is the first since 2010 and will not affect the tax rate. The bond includes $53 million earmarked for efficiency, including a new elementary school. It would take the place of the Guadalupe, Jackson and wright campuses.

$27 million will address accessibility compliance and balance programming and facilities across the district. $50 million will harden facilities, adding reinforced entrances and other security measures to each campus.

Mark Griffin, Co-chair of the Committee that made those safety proposals, calls it a courageous decision.

"The easy mark would have been just to step back and wait. I can tell you that what LISD is going to be doing through this security and making safety a high priority on our campuses, will likely be cutting edge in the entire state of Texas," Griffin said. "You're going to see school districts use us as a template if this is approved by the community to how they secure the schools."

This election will be on your November 6 ballot.
