Better chance for rain late week - FOX34 Lubbock

Better chance for rain late week

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

THIS AFTERNOON: It's nearly a repeat of yesterday, with a partly cloudy sky and the temperature in the mid 80s. It's closer to 90 east, off of the Caprock.

TONIGHT: Low near 68, wind S 5-15mph. Like this morning, some low clouds and fog will likely develop around sunrise. Sunrise 7:34.

TOMORROW: Partly cloudy, high 86. Wind S 10-18mph. There will be good coverage of showers and storms over New Mexico late tomorrow, a sign of what's to come here.

RAIN CHANCE: A decent upper-level disturbance will meet up with ample humidity to bring a pretty good rain chance here late this week. A front is also expected to slide across the area on Friday.

For how we have a chance for showers and storms Thursday, though some of the latest data this afternoon actually supports a good chance Thursday. It'll cool off slightly, high near 83.

The rain chance really increases Thursday night into Friday. With the front moving through that should support more shower and storm development. Beyond Friday, computer models differ on whether rain will continue here or move downstate with the front. For now we're trending lower on the rain chance for the weekend.

With lots of humidity in place and the potential for some locations to get a few rounds of rain, common totals of around 1/2" can be expected through the end of the week. But we have the setup for some locations to go well above 1".

It'll be a bit cooler Friday and Saturday. We're forecasting upper 70s, though with rain during the day it may only reach the lower 70s.

NEXT WEEK: It looks warmer and drier with the high in the mid 80s.

7-day forecast

Have a great rest of your day. Bobby will have a full update to the forecast here early tomorrow.
