LUBBOCK, Texas -

(Press release)

Members of Texas Tech University’s School of Music faculty from the J. T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts will perform a recital of chamber works as part of the Collaborations Faculty Chamber Music Series. The performance will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday (Sept. 23) in the Helen DeVitt Jones Sculpture Court at the Museum of Texas Tech University.

The concert will feature faculty including Gregory Brookes, assistant professor of voice; Carla Davis Cash, associate professor of piano and piano pedagogy; Lisa Garner Santa, professor of flute; Kimberly Sparr, assistant professor of viola; and Kevin Wass, professor of tuba and euphonium and chairman of the faculty committee that facilitates the Collaborations series.

Launched in 2015, Collaborations is a mixed-ensemble chamber music experience that has featured more than 30 faculty and staff performers. Performers form their own ensembles and choose their own repertoire for an artist-driven experience. In the recital, the faculty will be performing music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Philip Telemann, Christian Wolff, D. J. Sparr and Ben Miles. The concert is free and open to the public.

“The challenge of finding music for different combinations of baritone, flute, viola, tuba and piano is a great one, but that challenge has resulted in a program that is very engaging and unlike anything else you are likely to hear this year,” Wass said. “The program we have chosen reflects the Museum of Texas Tech’s diverse collection and programming, as well as the vitality of the arts on our campus.”

The same program will be presented at San Miguel Chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico, at 5 p.m. on Sept. 28. All the proceeds from the performance will benefit ongoing preservation efforts at the chapel.
