Lubbock Police Department hosts Explorer Post open house

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock police is hosting an open house for 15 to 20-year-olds who are interested in a career in law enforcement.

LPD Explorer Post Advisor Daniel Steen started his career at the explorer post. He said it gives you a good idea of what police officers do on a daily basis.

"We talk about the penal codes, the traffic codes, CCP, we go over arrest authorities, we talk about how to investigate certain crimes and it really gives them an insight into what we do and the training that would come in a police academy," Steen said.

The classes cover topics such as traffic stops, K9, SWAT, bomb squad, motors, penal code and crime scene investigations.

During the open house parents and teens could ask questions and learn more about the program to see if it would be a good fit for them.
