South Plains College releases fall 2018 enrollment figures

LEVELLAND, Texas -

South Plains College officials recently announced the fall 2018 enrollment numbers. As of the official 12th day of classes, enrollment across all SPC campuses is 9,300 for fall 2018 – down 0.3 percent. The enrollment for fall 2017 was 9,328.

“Although this is a very slight decrease, this is excellent news considering our economy,” said Dr. Robin Satterwhite, president of South Plains College. “It is highly recognized that when the job market strengthens, enrollment at community colleges decreases. Our ability to remain relatively flat in this time of significant economic growth is outstanding.

“Additionally, initial estimates show that contact hour enrollment will also be slighter higher for fall 2018,” he said. “Our state funding and tuition is based almost entirely on student contact hours. Therefore, this number is the most significant in respect to funding for the college.”

Since the enrollment surge in 2009, South Plains College has averaged around 9,500 students.

“This type of success can be directly attributed to the faculty and staff that worked so hard to ensure students were successfully enrolled in the fall,” Dr. Satterwhite said.

“I recognize the amazing work that every single department and the faculty invested to ensure that we had very good results for this fall,” he said.
