Mostly sunny today, rain chances in the forecast

Posted: Updated:

HURRICANE FLORENCE: Latest on the hurricane is a little relief as it has been down graded to a Category 2. Max wind speed of 110mph as it continues the northwest movement towards North Carolina. This system will impact North Carolina early tomorrow morning, then slowly move south along the coast before moving inland. This will be dropping 15 or more inches for some areas in the Carolinas, causing major flooding.

SOUTH PLAINS REST OF WEEK: Mostly sunny with highs in the mid 80s. If you are planning to be at the Plainview vs. Lubbock High football game tonight it will be a nice evening.

RAIN THIS WEEKEND: A disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico still has a 60% chance to become a cyclone before moving into the coast. This will bring some heavy rainfall for south Texas with flooding a concern for some areas. This will also bring some moisture into our area for the weekend. The better chance for rain looks to be to the south and eastern counties, but we still can have storms across the rest of the area.

NEXT WEEK: Sunny sky returning with highs climbing into the upper 80s.

Have a great Thursday! Matt will be tonight with the latest updates on the News at Nine.
